The main reason I bought this house in Yilan was because it had a small garden, which is what I have told my guests over the years that this is the kind of residence they have been pursuing. In front of the house is the vast, unobstructed countryside, and in the distance you can see the magnificent mountains.

In the past, Ah Ben had been staying in a small room in Taipei all year round. As his siblings passed away one after another, he began to become a little depressed. After all, when he was still a three-cat grouper, he had companions to help groom his fur and chase and play with him every day. In the later years, he could only look at the streets in a very short distance from the door.
Aben also began to lose his appetite due to depression. In addition to the torture of chronic diseases and the selfishness of his owner, he had to be fed medicine and force-fed every day, which made him even more depressed.
Although we have been telling guests since before the epidemic to find similar accommodation so that their children can run, jump and play safely in the garden.
As a result, housing prices soared after the outbreak of the epidemic, and the prices in Taichung, which I had been looking at, had already increased to a point where I could no longer afford it.
Last year, due to marital problems, I was exhausted both mentally and physically. I made up my mind to leave this extremely small living space as soon as possible. On the one hand, it was for my own good, and on the other hand, it was also for Aben to get rid of his depression symptoms.
At the beginning, in order to secure my job location, I just wanted a high-rise building with a broad view. At the beginning of the year, I actively looked for houses in Taipei. After field investigations everywhere, I found that New Taipei City and Taipei were really not my ideal places. In addition, due to budget issues, I could only buy a house in a very remote suburb if I wanted a high-rise building with a broad view. If that were the case, what was the point of trying my best to stay in Taipei?
When I felt hopeless, I thought I might as well start from the surrounding cities. I recalled that when I took my parents to visit the Lanyang Plain, I was shocked by the good air quality here. It was totally incomparable to the western trunk line, especially after living in the narrow Taipei for many years. The exhaust gas on the road every day was even more terrible. When I went out, I could only use my aging lungs to help act as an air purifier to filter the air quality.
After making up my mind, I turned my target to Yilan, which is known as the back garden of Taipei. But when I saw the prices, my eyes immediately lit up. How could they be so ridiculously cheap? They are even much cheaper than my hometown.
I spent more than a month collecting information to understand the housing prices, transportation and living conveniences of each district. Finally, I made two round trips to actively look at houses. As long as more than 80% of the conditions of a house meet your expectations and the price is reasonable and acceptable, it is time to make a move.
I can only say that opportunities always come to the right people. This house has about 90% of the conditions I like, and the price is affordable for me. I only spent about half an hour looking at the house, and then I set a time to sign the contract with the owner. After that, I went through the house buying process.
After officially moving in, I found even more surprises. The loud bird songs and warm sunshine woke me up early in the morning. I greedily breathed in the extremely fresh air on the balcony and looked out at the open scenery in the distance. Even the occasional chest tightness that I had suffered for many years was cured without medication. At night, the white noise of insects in the countryside accompanied me to sleep.
Ah Ben also seemed very happy. He finally had a good view. Every day birds would fly to the window to play with him. The sunlight that penetrated through helped to drive away the perennial gloom, and he looked visibly happier.
When we first moved here, I would take Ah Ben out for a walk as long as the weather was fine and the temperature was suitable. This not only allowed him to see more of the world, but also allowed Ah Ben to spend more time with me and experience again the time when he was a little kitten and I often took him out for a walk in the park.
During that time, he also sent many photos of them going out together, including galloping on the grass, picnicking by the river, playing in the sand at the beach, and other various sights of traveling and enjoying the mountains and rivers. He told the doctor who treated him all the year round that he was brought here to live out his old age, and that the doctor was very envious and very happy for him.
He spent half a year happily with Ah Ben. Although he was reluctant to leave, he eventually succumbed to his old and decaying body and left this world early.
The main reason I bought this house was because of its small garden. When I was still living in Taipei, it was not my own house, so I had no choice but to bury the children who passed away that year in a place far away from me.
This place is very convenient, with beautiful scenery, chirping insects and birds. I have decided from the beginning that this is where my children will rest in peace.
After Aben passed away, he was often buried here in a tree. The branches swaying in the wind told me that they are still by my side.
Today's wind is blowing so gently, and the words in the wind are the tenderness and love between my dearest family members and me...
